About Us

Bliss Healthcare Services was founded to close a gap that many Black African and African American women in Minnesota know all too well: the absence of substance use recovery care that truly understands their lives.

Our Story

Our founder and leadership team bring years of hands-on experience in culturally specific behavioral health, housing navigation, and community health work with East African and African American communities across the Twin Cities.

That experience - in SUD case management, peer recovery support, mental health services, and community outreach through churches and cultural centers - shaped a simple conviction: recovery works best when it's led by people who share the language, faith, and lived experience of the women being served.

Women working together

Our Mission

To provide women-only, culturally specific substance use recovery care for Black African and African American women - care that honors cultural identity, extended-family bonds, and faith, while addressing trauma, stigma, and the systemic barriers that make recovery harder to access.

Who We Serve

We serve Black African and African American women, 18 and older, across the Twin Cities metro area. Many of the women in our community are:

  • Immigrants and refugees navigating new systems far from home
  • Mothers balancing recovery with parenting and family responsibilities
  • Survivors of trauma, gender-based violence, or family separation
  • Women involved with child protection or the justice system

Governance & Leadership

Bliss is majority led by the community we serve. More than 70% of our key decision-makers - including our executive leadership, clinical leadership, and board - are Black African and African American women, many with lived experience of recovery themselves.

We also maintain an ongoing Community Advisory Group made up of current and former participants, family members, and community leaders.

Our Partners

Bliss works closely with two established organizations to build a strong foundation for the women we serve:

Thriving Mothers and Daughters (TMD)

Our fiscal sponsor, providing financial management, grant compliance support, and experience helping culturally specific providers navigate state licensure and reporting requirements.
